6th Annual Bluebonnet Tour
After a 1 day rain delay due to heavy rainshowers, the 6th Annual Bluebonnet Tour took place in Ennis, TX on April 19, 2026. The rain delay prevented several people from attending, but we still had 12 cars and 20 people.
We got to Ennis about 7-10 days after the bluebonnets peaked, but there were plenty of flowers left for some good pics and views - and scents, too! If you've never been near a big field of them, bluebonnets have a very pungent, sweet fragrance that lent a beautiful olfactory sensation to the tour.
We met up for lunch at Don Jose's restaurant in Ennis. After lunch, we had a short driver's meeting, then it was off to the blooms!
About 3/5ths of the way around the tour, we visited Mr Holy's field on FM 1181. Mr Holy is a farmer who lets bluebonnets cover 2 of his hay fields and lets visitors walk out into and around the flowers. He puts out small hay bales to sit on and even mows narrow paths through the flowers so you don't have to trample them down to get out in the middle of them.
As he often does, he was at the entrance to his fields, regalaing many of us and other flower seekers with his stories about how his family came to the US long ago and considered the flowers a weed. Only when they switched from growing cotton to raising hay did he let the flowers flourish.
We ended the tour at Buc-ees, giving everyone a chance to freshen up and refresh drinks/snacks before we split up on our drives home.
